At the Annual HSMAI Big Apple Chapter Tourism Achievement Awards Dinner held at the Rainbow Room on June 25th, Mary Lou Pollack, General Manager of The Alex, was honored with the Frank W. Berkman Tourism award for General Manager of the Year, 2007. This very prestigious honor is decided by the votes of all Past Presidents of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.
She joins a very select group of previous award recipients including Eric O. Long, General Manager fo the Waldorf Astoria, Conrad Wangeman, General manager of the Hilton New York, and Thomas G. Lewis, President and General Manager of Gray Line New York Sightseeing.
Ms Pollack is a 27 year veteran of the Hospitality Industry. In 2004 she opened the Alex at 205 East 45th Street in New York City. In 2005 the Alex was selected for membership in The Leading Hotels of the World and in the Fall of 2006 was awarded the AAA Four Diamond Award.
Before Joining the Alex Mary Lou was Vice President of Sales for Prime Hospitality Corp. in Fairfield New Jersey.
Ms. Pollack is a graduate of Duke University. She is a former President of the Maryland Chapter of HSMAI and Past President and Chairman of The New Jersey Travel Industry Association. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of Carino Hotels and Resorts.
